As flash floods and heavy rainfall, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told news agency ANI, “Many houses, roads, and bridges are damaged & many people are injured and missing. Our priority is to make sure medical aid reaches the injured persons; search & rescue operations are underway. We working on war-footing to restore road connectivity.” He added, “Equipment on the ground to re-channelise rivers that have changed their course. There has been a lot of damage to infrastructure. We’re working to bring back normalcy. I’m personally monitoring the situation along with all district officials & public representatives.”
Twenty-two people, eight of them members of one family, died separately in landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh. Several people are missing and feared dead while at least ten suffered injuries, officials said Saturday. Heavy rain has been lashing the hill state since Friday. According to officials, three people were killed after their house collapsed following a landslide in Chamba district. The district emergency operation centre said the landslide occurred at Banet village in Chowari tehsil around at 4.30 am.
Three people died in Jharkhand on Saturday as heavy rains and high-speed winds lashed the State uprooting trees and electricity poles. While one woman died in a wall collapse, two other people drowned. Moreover, two other people went missing as their vehicles fell into swollen Nalkari river, PTI reported.
Odisha: Govt evacuates people from low-lying areas amid flood threat in northern districts
The district administration of Odisha’s Balasore and Mayurbhanj has launched a massive evacuation drive in low-lying areas, as it gears up to combat flooding in the Subarnarekha and Baitarani river systems, officials said Sunday.
The state is already reeling under the impact of a medium flood in the Mahanadi river system following incessant rainfall, which has affected above seven lakh people, of whom nearly 5 lakh are still marooned in 763 villages, they said.
Meanwhile, the death toll in rain and flood-related incidents rose to six, with rescue teams recovering bodies of at least two persons in Kuchinda area of Sambalpur district. Earlier, four people, including two minor girls, were killed following a wall collapse on Friday night.
