National Walk Your Dog Week – October 1-7, 2022, history significance why we celebrate
National Walk Your Dog Week is observed between October 1 to 7. Is your pooch a fan of getting outdoors and taking a walk? If that is the case, this week is an ideal time to play outdoors. You and your dog may join a nationwide celebration highlighting the advantages of walking together. Therefore, it is time to get out those shoes and prepare your puppy’s paw pads for National Walk Your Dog Week. This time serves as a reminder to pet owners that exercise is critical for the health of their canine companions.
History of Walk Your Dog Week
Walk Your Dog Week was founded in 2010 by Celebrity Pet Lifestyle Expert and Animal Advocate Colleen Paige, to bring awareness to canine obesity and canine behavior in America. It was originally supposed to be a day holiday, but after contemplation, Paige decided that a day was not enough time to get people’s dogs into a routine and help their pets and owners change their lifestyles. She believed that once people started seeing the changes in their dogs, it will encourage them to keep taking care of their dogs and be excited about spending time walking them.
According to Paige, if a dog is kept all day long in a crate or a yard, it can lead to destructive behavior, where due to the dog’s loneliness and boredom, they can lead to various medical issues such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. So, walking your dog can decrease those medical issues and destructive behaviors and improve the dog’s overall health. This holiday was based on the concern for dogs and their well being because, for many dog lovers, these animals make up a huge part of a person’s life and leave lasting impressions for all kinds of people.
