National Council Hill Day – October 19, 2022, history, significance

The National Council Hill Day is observed on October 19 annually. On this day, advocates can directly interact with policymakers regarding funding programs for mental health issues and substance abuse. Healthcare professionals have the opportunity to hear from policy experts, learn about Capitol Hill activities, and create a change through advocacy initiatives. You can also make a difference by advocating for mental health policies that will benefit those affected.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL COUNCIL HILL DAY

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing is an organization that was established in 1969. This group intends to influence public policy and social change on behalf of more than ten million children, adults, and families, assisted by over 3,100 organizations that support and provide help and treatment for substance abuse and mental problems.

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing advocates the adoption of necessary policies that would ensure that everyone has access to quality services. It tries to improve the level of treatment for both substance abuse and mental health issues.

It also seeks to actively increase public awareness of the importance of mental health as a primary factor in holistic health and medical treatment. They have educated over 2.6 million people in the United States through their Mental Health First Aid, or M.H.F.A. program. As a result of this training, these people can recognize, comprehend, and respond effectively to signs and symptoms of mental health and drug use concerns.

This organization strives for the introduction and up-gradation of laws that would save lives and fortify the safety net for substance abuse and mental health. It also encourages lawmakers to invest in provider capacity; increase mental health literacy; and develop a robust, well-funded, and inclusive approach to the treatment of mental illness and substance abuse. Besides that, it acts as the unifying voice of organizations all across the United States that deliver services in these areas.
