The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested businessman Prem Prakash for alleged laundering of funds generated allegedly from illegal mining in Jharkhand, people aware of the matter said on Thursday a day after the agency carried out searches at 17 locations across four states as part of its probe into the case.

Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren’s aide Pankaj Mishra was earlier arrested in the case in July.

The people said that Prakash was due to be taken to a hospital for a medical check-up and will later be produced in a special court.

ED on Wednesday said it recovered two AK-47 assault rifles from Prakash’s residence before the Jharkhand Police claimed they belonged to them. The police said the agency will hand over the guns to them and that their two constables left the rifles with Prakash’s staff after returning home from duty on Tuesday night when it started raining.

The two constables were suspended for negligence and further action was expected against them.
