The Indian women’s cricket team made it to the final of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, thanks to a strong performance from the bowlers after a useful half-century from opener Smriti Mandhana (61).
India entered the gold medal match after beating hosts England by four runs in a thrilling encounter in the semi-finals played on Saturday. It is worth noting that women’s cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games for the first time and the Indian team, due to its strong performance, ensured at least a silver medal in the very first time itself.
Mandhana gave a strong score
Batting first after winning the toss, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur made a strong score of 164 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. During this, Mandhana played an innings of 61 runs in 32 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes. Apart from him, Jemima Rodriguez scored 44 not out. In reply, England team could score only 160 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. For India, Sneh Rana took two wickets and Deepti Sharma took one wicket. Captain Nat Sciver scored the highest 41 runs for England. Amy Jones scored 31 runs.
