History of Chhatarpur
This is the website of Chhatarpur district administration. Chhatrapur district is one of the 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh state of India. The headquarters of the district administration is located in the city of Chhatarpur, situated on the west side of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, at a distance of 336 kms. This district has 6 sections (sub division), 11 tehsils, 8 district panchayats, 3 municipalities and 12 municipal councils.
Chhatarpur is situated in the north eastern border of the state of Madhya Pradesh . It came into existence in 1956.
Chhatarpur is located within 24.06′ to 25.20′ North latitude and 78.59′ to 80.26′ East longitude. It comprises of an area of 8687 sq km. According to 1991 census, the total population of Chhatarpur is 11,58,076. Out of it 6,23,878 are males and the number of females is 5,34,198.
Cultivation of crops like paddy, wheat and jowar is practiced in the district of Chhatarpur. Good quality timber is also produced here.

1. Raneh Fall, Chhatarpur
The Raneh Fall is a natural waterfall on the Ken River, located in Khajuraho in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
The Ken River forms a 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) long, and 30 metres (98 ft) deep canyon made of pure crystalline granite in varying shades of colours ranging from pink and red to grey. There is a series of waterfalls in the canyon.
The larger and smaller falls run all through the year. Other seasonal falls appear during monsoons.
It is about 20 kilometres (12 mi) away from Khajuraho. The Ken Gharial Sanctuary is located at the confluence of the Ken and Khudar rivers further down from Reneh Falls.
The Ken river here runs through a narrow gorge of igneous rocks rich in Granite and Dolomite.
The Pandav Falls in Panna National Park is also located nearby.
2. Jatashankar Temple, Chhatarpur
Jatashankar is a Temple and Hindu shrine located in tehsil bijawar of District Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Jatashankar has running natural water from the mouth of a symbolic “Nandi”.
The place served as a shrine to the God Shiva and is a popular destination for pilgrims. Jata means hair and Shankar is another name of Lord Shiva.
There are ponds fed by springs found in the locality, one of cold water and the other one of hot water.
3. Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum, Chhatarpur
Maharaja Chhatrasal Museum is a museum located in an old palace at Dhubela, on the Chhatarpur-Jhansi highway, in Chhatarpur District, Madhya Pradesh, India.
This museum was established in September, 1955 in a palace built by Chhatrasal for his residence.
Presently, the museum comprises 8 galleries, of which two galleries display inscriptions, copper plates, Sati pillars, lingas and inscribed images of the Gupta and Kalachuri period.
The museum houses a wide range of sculptures of the Shakti cult.
It has also a significant collection of Jaina images.
It also displays the garments, weapons and paintings of the Bundela kings.
Maharaja Chhatrasal (4 May 1649 – 19 December 1731), was a medieval Indian warrior who fought against the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb,
and established his own kingdom in Bundelkhand, becoming a Maharaja.
Maharaja Chhatrasal Maqbara is one of those historical monuments of Chhatarpur that is actually the cenotaph of the Maharaja of Chhatrasal.
It is also an important monument from an architectural point of view.[citation needed] This beautiful example of Bundeli architecture was built by Baji Rao Peshawa (First) in memory of Maharaja Chhatrasal in 1736 A. D.
4. Maharani Kamlapati Cenotaph.
It is an octagonal structure situated on a high platform. Built in the 17th century the monument is a fine example of Bundeli style.
5. Sheetal Garhi, Chhatarpur
It was built in the 17th century during the period of Maharaja Chhatrasal, this famous monument exemplifies the rich Bundeli art. This fortress was built for residential purpose to escape the excessive heat in the peak of summer. Its interior is decorated with foliage patterns.

8. Bhimkund, Chhatarpur
Bhimkund (also known as Neelkund) is a natural water tank and a holy place in Madhya Pradesh, India. It is located near Bajna village in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh. It is 77 km away from Chhatarpur by road in the Bundelkhand region.[1]
Bhimkund is a natural water source and a holy place that dates from the era of the Mahabharata. The water of the kund (tank) is so clean and transparent that one can clearly see fish swimming in the water. The kund lies in a cave, about 3 metres from the mouth. To the left of the entrance is a small Shivalinga. The pool is a deep indigo blue which contrasts with the red stone walls.
A story from the Mahabharata links Bhimkund with the Pandavas. Weary under the scorching Surya, Draupadi fainted of thirst. Bhim, the strongest of the five brothers, hit the ground with his gada water surged out and the pool came into being.
The roof of the cave has a small opening just above the kund; this is the place Bhim is said to have hit with his gada.
Another legend has it that the Vedic sage Narada performed the Gandharva Gaanam (celestial song) in praise of Lord Vishnu. Pleased with his devotion, Vishnu emerged from the kund and the water turned blue because of Vishnu’s dark complexion. The depth of this water tank is still unknown and a mystery.

The Khajuraho Group of Monuments is a group of Hindu temples and Jain temples in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, India, about 175 kilometres (109 mi) southeast of Jhansi. Most Khajuraho temples were built between 950 and 1050 by the Chandela dynasty. Historical records note that the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples by the 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometers Of these, only about 25 temples have survived, spread over six square kilometers. Of the surviving temples, the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is decorated with a profusion of sculptures with intricate details, symbolism and expressiveness of ancient Indian art.
The Khajuraho group of temples were built together but were dedicated to two religions, Hinduism and Jainism, suggesting a tradition of acceptance and respect for diverse religious views among Hindus and Jains in the region.

Dal is prepared using Tuvaar Dal, Chana Dal (prepared by removing skin of split chickpeas), Mung dal. The pulses or lentils are cooked together after being soaked in water for a few hours. First, a small amount of vegetable oil is heated in a frying pan and then the seasoning rai-jeera (mustard and cumin seeds) is added into the hot oil. Then green chilli, garlic and some spices including hing, red chilli, haldi, coriander, ginger are added. There may be a sweet and sour version of dal in some regions. Finally, the boiled Daal is added and cooked.
Baati is a hard bread made up of wheat flour commonly known as aata. Wheat flour is kneaded with little bit of salt, Dahi (yogurt) and water. Tennis ball-sized round balls of this dough are cooked in a well-heated traditional oven. When the Baati becomes golden brown in colour, it is greased with ghee and is then served with dal, rava ladoo, rice, pudina chutney, kairi (raw mango) chutney, green salad with lots of onion, and fresh buttermilk (chass).
