Self-styled ‘godman’ Chaitanyananda Saraswati was on the run for 50 days, shifting  locales  constantly, to  shirk arrest in a controversial sexual  importunity case. During this time, he moved through 15 different  hospices, strictly avoiding those with CCTV surveillance, according to police reports and  examinations.

Elusive Escape: 50 Days on the Run

Chaitanyananda Saraswati, aged 62, was indicted for sexually draining at least 17 women,  substantially scholars at the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management in Delhi. To avoid getting caught, he chose low- cost hospices without CCTV cameras and shifted  constantly between nearly 50 establishments over the 50- day period. His  helpers reportedly helped him pick these discreet spots. Eventually, police arrested him in the early hours of Sunday at a hostel in Agra, where he’s now in guardianship.

Reluctance to Cooperate

Since his arrest, Saraswati has not been  laboriously cooperating with investigators. He has claimed anxiety and denied the allegations,  averring they’re  unwarranted. He also told officers that he forgot the passwords to his phones and devices, three phones and an iPad of his were sent to forensic labs for further analysis.

Dark Allegations and Multiple Cases

Known also as Partha Sarathy, Saraswati was affiliated with the Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, and ran the Delhi institute where the alleged harassment took place. The police have registered an FIR against him for sexual harassment and misconduct following a complaint from the female students. He currently faces at least five criminal cases including molestation, cheating, forgery, and fraud. Authorities are also investigating his financial dealings related to a trust worth ₹122 crore.

Impact on Students

Several students were reportedly compelled to travel with Saraswati on domestic and international trips and visit his personal quarters at odd hours. So far, statements have been recorded from 32 victims, with about half confirming sexual exploitation and harassment, a highly disturbing development for everyone involved.

Judicial Custody and Investigation

After his arrest, Saraswati was produced before the Patiala House Court, which transferred him to five days’ police guardianship. The court stressed the  significance of his interrogation for the ongoing  disquisition, emphasizing the need to defy him with victim  testaments, examine electronic  substantiation including WhatsApp data, and identify other possible cohorts.

The police are strictly probing the case, and Saraswati’s detention is seen as critical for gathering  further substantiation and clarifying the extent of his network and conduct.
