In May, the 64-year-old opened up on his diagnosis during a discussion with cooking partner, Si King, on their podcast. Dave was forced to pull out of upcoming project as he underwent a bout of chemotherapy.

He said: “I maybe a baldy biker for a while… it’s simply something I have to live with. Anyway Kingy, I’ve got to come clean now, I haven’t been too well recently and basically, I’ve got to have some chemo, you know all this anyway, so this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I’m not going to be filming, some of the festivals I’m not going to be able to go to, some may be okay but this year’s a bit of a write off for us.”

The TV chef reassured fans after the prognosis and vowed to beat the illness. He added: “I have had to speak up about this because I don’t want to hide under a rock, but I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team all the support they need, that would be great. But look, the prognosis is okay, I’m going to be fine.”

At the Bolton Food and Drink Festival, Si, 55, appeared on stage alongside presenter Jenny Powell. According to the M.E.N, he thanked those in attendance for their support and reassured people that his close friend is ‘in the trenches’ but ‘getting there’.

Addressing the crowd at the end of his demonstration, he said: “I just wanted to say, from Dave and I, thank you so so very much for all of the goodwill and support, all the messages really do not go unnoticed. He’s doing canny but as you appreciate he’s right in the trenches of it all at the minute but he’s getting there, thank God.”

During the cookery demo, which was held in the Albert Halls, Si cooked up salmon and prawn burgers, as well as a delicious-looking steak and cannellini bean salad, complete with an orange zest and chilli dressing.
