West Indies vs Ireland, 11th Match, Group B, T-20 World Cup 2022 , When and where Full Squad

We are into the final day of the T20 WC qualifiers 2022, and not far away from the T20 WC Super 12 stage folks. Four teams will play today, and the teams that end up on the winning side, make it to the next stage, provided weather doesn’t play spoilsport.

After losing against Scotland, West Indies bounced back in an emphatic style against Zimbabwe, while Ireland beat Scotland in their previous game as Curtis Campher chipped in with a brilliant all-round performance. All the four teams in this group have won a game each and lost a game each, that’s quite interesting..

With the group wide open, the favourable results that both West Indies and Ireland got on Wednesday would serve as a huge boost to their confidence. The route to the next stage is simple with the game being a virtual knockout unless rain intervenes. The chances of rain in the forecast have been coming down with Hobart bathed in bright sunshine in the days leading up to the game.

The day games have produced better batting conditions so far, and if the sun stays out that should stay true for Friday as well. With both attacks relying more on pace than spin so far, the game promises to throw more challenges. West Indies have called the game “a final” from their point of view after losing their opening match against Scotland. With pride at stake, the win against Zimbabwe saw passionate cries of relief from the senior members of the team.

“We spoke a lot about attitude and it was important we brought the correct attitude into the game. Yeah, so it’s just basically us just showing our passion and love that we brought through the years playing this sport, and yeah, it was important that we just brought the right energy towards the game yesterday,” said Holder.

“When you look around the dressing room, we’ve got a pretty young team, and most of the guys are in their early to mid 20s, and it’s a great side for West Indies cricket. I think my point was just mainly us rebuilding and rejigging our T20 mantra, for lack of a better phrase, and trying to now reestablish ourselves as a new West Indies look T20 side,” he also said.

While West Indies look to forge their new identity, Ireland have their own to carve out. Through a powerful batting performance, they’ve kept their hopes alive of getting to the next round and will be hoping that their bowlers too come to the fore in the next game.

“Keep taking chances, try to reduce that total if we can, and doing a little bit better with the bat and make sure we’re setting the platform up and being able to bring it home. We’ll take a huge amount of confidence from that game and how we went about our work into Friday’s match,” said George Dockrell looking ahead at the game.
