Lilly Singh was born in the Scarborough district of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on September 26, 1988. She was born to Malvindar Kaur and Sukvindar Singh.
They were Indian immigrants from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India, and raised her as a Sikh. Singh has an older sister named Tina, a YouTuber who makes videos about her family life with her husband and their three sons. Singh admits she was a tomboy growing up.
She attended the Mary Shadd Public School. In 2006, she graduated from Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute in Malvern, Toronto. Four years later, she graduated from York University in Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
